Manchester ACE John Murray aims to follow the footsteps of Ricky Hatton and Conquer America this Saturday night.
Murray has already held the British and European titles, but the 26-Year-OLD now takes a big step globally when he faces the world Boxing Association (WBA) light weight World Champion Brandon Rios at Madison Square Garden in New York , live and exclusive on BoxNation (Sky platform Ch. 456).
“This is by far the biggest tip of my career to date,” said Murray. “To fight in the” Mecca “of boxing, Madison Square Garden, for the world title is the reason I am in this sport in the first place, ”
“If you don’t want to have nights like this then there is no point in being in this game. I have fought more in America in the past and have won each time, so I intend to continue this race on December 3 against Rios. ”
“Hatton has had many beautiful nights in America and I hope I am the next Manchester fighter who can win there. ”
Murray’s last bout was a cracked encounter against the British rival Kevin Mitchell, whose last won, but he thinks he’s back stronger from defeat and he’s going to help him beat Rios.
“This is a great step for me to bounce back after my defeat to Mitchell,” he said. “Since this loss, we have been back in the gym and have returned to the basics, ”
“I’ve been working on moving my feet and legs a lot more, I think the loss was the kick-up-the-Bum I needed to reign my motivation for the sport. Training and sparring were fine and I’m looking forward to just getting back in the ring and putting on a good show. ”
Murray knows that if he is to bring the world title back to Manchester with him, he will need to be at his best against the undefeated American.
“Rios is a very good fighter and is the champion for a reason, it is very good to come, but sometimes he tends to neglect his defense a bit and I will try to exploit this and keep me tight, ”
The loss of Mitchell comes into play once again because he made me look at my defense to improve it and make me sharper. I feel like I have this fight before I lose I would just go out there and fight with it, but now I want to try to be a little smarter. ”
